Good afternoon sisters and brothers;

It has been an unusually warm autumn. This has afforded the opportunity for long runs and spectacular bike rides along dusty gravel roads.

The other day was especially windy. The fallen leaves were being swept up into the air by mighty gusts of wind, and the birds were hunkered down in the trees, hanging on to branches with all their might. The shadows of the turkey vultures flying overhead zipped across the land like arrows flung from a mythical archer's bow.

I climbed on to my bike and set off down the Wabash Road. My bike is a conduit to the spiritual world. Like the kids in the movie ET who soar across the moon on their bikes, my bike allows me and my imagination to break free and soar to incredible spiritual heights, where my thoughts are clear and where the Holy Spirit thrives.

On the first part of this ride, I faced a rather wicked head wind. It was almost impossible to gather any speed. As I rode, I thought about the things that were on my mind. The things that I had done during the week, the things that I ought not to have done, and the things that needed to be done. In other words, I was preoccupied with earthly concerns. And as I neared the end of the road, the wind became stronger. I was exhausted.

The Wabash Road dead ends at the Kent Bridge Road.

I turned my bike around in the shadow of the stop sign and looked down the road.

Now that I was facing north, the quality of light was completely different. It was softer and more forgiving. On the first leg it was right in my eyes making it difficult to see properly.

As I began to pedal and shift gears, the wind was pushing me down the road faster and faster and faster. By the time I had shifted into my 21st gear, I was probably traveling at over 40 kms an hour.

I went from one spiritual dimension to another.

Suddenly my thoughts became clear.

The worries subsided.

And I continued to go faster and faster, yet I felt completely at peace and in tune with the divine.

I prayed for our little reflection group.

I prayed for our broken world.

I prayed for our sisters and brothers south of us who are undergoing tremendous upheaval.

I prayed for peace.

I did not have much time for which to pray as the end of the road was suddenly before me.

I love riding like the wind.

My prayer for you today is that you take the time to go outside and be at peace with nature. Go for a walk, a bike ride or just stand beneath a tree and rejoice in the moment.

Let us pray

Gracious and loving Creator;

To all nations grant unity, peace, and concord, and to all people give dignity, food and shelter.

Grant us abundant harvests, strength and skill to conserve the resources of the earth, and wisdom to use them well.

Come to the help of all who are in danger, necessity, and trouble.

Heal those who are sick in body and mind, and give skill and compassion to all who care for them.

Grant us true repentance, forgive our sins, and strengthen us by your Holy Spirit to amend our lives according to your holy word.

Amen

Diosito me los colme de bendiciones y alegría hoy y siempre.

Paz

I love you

John
